Rhetorical questions are awesome for blogs, diaries and creative writing.

Academic writing is not supposed to be creative writing.

1. Is it ok to use rhetorical questions in writing task 2? No, don't put any type of question in your essays. It isn't considered appropriate academic style.

I don't know who says that - you aren't writing in an academic style - people who think that usually also tell you that you must only use the passive etc. This is really bad advice. Read my free book again to see why you are writing a formal essay and not an academic one. Rhetorical questions can be useful, I sometimes use them myself if it feels appropriate, but I don't advise using them all the time, and only one in an essay is enough.

Dịch sơ: Xài được, IELTS Writing là formal writing nhưng không phải academic writing. Nhưng cũng đừng lạm dụng, cả bài xài 1 lần là đủ.

VẬY CPE THÌ SAO?

Theo C2 Proficiency Handbook for Teachers, việc dùng rhetorical questions là cần thiết để set up a new paragraph theo một cách less explicit (ít lồ lộ hơn).

Cách sử dụng này sẽ được đánh giá trong tiêu chí Organization (hôm bữa có 1 bài đăng phân biệt Organization ở các trình độ B2, C1 và C2 😛 mọi người có thể vô phần Hướng dẫn của nhóm Crush CPE with CrushIELTS trên Facebook, mục Writing để kiếm lại & tham khảo).

À với lại cho bạn nào không biết Writing của CPE là viết cái gì:

Task 1: This part tests the candidates’ ability to write an essay, summarising and evaluating the key points from two texts and including their own ideas in their answer.

Task 2: The focus is on writing one of the following: an article, an informal letter, a formal letter, a report, a review.
